57 E Concord

2008, oil on panel

57 E Concord is a three-paneled work designed specifically for a loft apartment in Boston. The painting incorporates multiple viewpoints from the site that are superimposed in varying strengths throughout the painting, creating moments of coincidence and interference. These overlays correspond to a light pattern that is cast on the painting in the evening.

As day turns to night, the light on the installation wall changes from a diffuse, ambient light, to a geometric pattern bounded by window frames. This grid of light reacts with the painting to shift the visual experience of the overlaid images, from transparency to reflectivity. On site, the painting appears to reflect views of the city seen through the windows of the room.
